David Langiulli
Executive Coach | Jiu-Jitsu Practitioner | Author

I slept-walked through most of my early adult life. Conscious in one sense, unconscious in another.

Then, I encountered inner work through Leadership Wyoming. And what a difference that made!

Now, many years later, I use all my knowledge, courage, compassion, and wisdom to help leaders wake up and flourish—especially in transition, challenging environments, or difficult situations.

Unlike other executive coaches and leadership trainers, my background includes being an entrepreneur, fundraiser, manager, and leader in the nonprofit and private sectors for over thirty years.

In the nonprofit world, I successfully served in positions of progressive responsibility in fundraising and university technology transfer. Before founding Fundraising Leadership, I led a team of ten development professionals at Princeton that raised $35million for the University each year. Before this, I served as the Chief Development Officer for Stony Brook University’s College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

In the for-profit world, I led market research, product development, sales, and marketing initiatives. My experience culminated in transforming a division of an entrepreneurial company in San Francisco, where I built and led a team of three dozen researchers, artists, engineers, and marketing managers.

I hold masters degrees in management and engineering as well as a bachelor's degree in physics and mathematics.

In modern organizations, the wisdom of ancient philosophy still provides some tools that we can use today. Some of that philosophy comes from the Stoics such as Marcus Aurelius who was arguably the greatest leader ever to have ruled the Roman Empire. He was greatly influenced by the Greek philosopher, Epictetus.  Aurelius’ Meditations and Epictetus’ Enchiridion are two works that come down to us through history as guides for the Stoic Way of living and leading. In this short eBook, I engage the Philosopher and the Emperor in a series of dialogues about leadership in the modern era.

We live in uncertain and turbulent times. Things wear out. Experiences fade. Circumstances change. Structures are unstable. People get sick and die. Living in a turbulent world with peace and tranquility requires that you "get your mind right." That means slowing down, silencing your inner critic, and accepting what is – especially dealing with the difficult emotions that arise when you confront volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. This book is for all who want to “get their mind[s] right in order to be at peace.

The first step for you is to sharpen your intellect and not buy anything that is presented without question. To wake yourself up, skeptical thinking and critical questioning are extremely important. Otherwise, you are a Zombie. You are just being fed through an intravenous system. So let us not be Zombies! Let us be full, living persons who could think critically, work it out, and understand, and question anything we do not understand.  If you're reading this description, you are not a Zombie – Yet!
